Mac repair isn't one process. Pre-2018 Intel Macs had user-replaceable SSDs, screws holding things together, and Apple-supplied service tooling. T2-era and Apple Silicon Macs are different — here's what changes.
Full LCD/OLED + lid + hinge assembly. We use Apple-spec replacement panels with proper True Tone calibration. Most common on dropped MacBooks or units with the "stage-light" backlight failure.
Pre-2018 Intel: battery only. 2018+: full top-case (battery + keyboard + trackpad). We handle adhesive removal carefully — rushing this step damages the battery and risks a fire.
Time-sensitive. We disassemble fully, ultrasonic-clean the logic board, dry properly, and test components before powering. Earlier you bring it = lower cost. After 48hrs corrosion is significant; after a week, board may be unrecoverable.
Dead SMC, failed power IC, broken charging IC, no-display issues, dead USB-C ports requiring board-level desolder. We do component-level Mac board work in-house — most chain shops refuse.
Bent or burnt USB-C connector. Requires desolder + resolder of a new port. We use proper rework stations — bad reflow on USB-C means a re-do in 6 months, which we won't risk.
Loud fan = bad bearing. Repaste service brings thermal headroom back. Common on 2018–2020 Pro models that throttle aggressively. We use proper Apple-spec thermal paste, not cheap aftermarket.

We're upfront about Mac scenarios where repair isn't possible — not because we lack tooling, but because Apple's hardware design genuinely prevents repair in these cases.
The M-series chip integrates the SSD controller. If the chip itself is destroyed by surge, fire, or severe physical damage, the storage is unrecoverable AND the Mac is unrepairable. Free diagnostic confirms before any attempt.
The "Erase All Content and Settings" command rotates the encryption key in the Secure Enclave. By design, no third-party can recover post-erase data. Same outcome we'd want as users.
If you bought a used Mac that turned out to be Activation Locked, the previous owner has to sign out of their Apple ID remotely. We don't bypass — same protection that keeps your Mac safe.
Corrosion from sugary drinks (juice, soda) eats through traces fast. Past about 2 weeks of sitting wet, even ultrasonic cleaning often can't recover what's gone. Bring it in within 24–48 hours when possible.

Apple sells the display as a full assembly (LCD + glass + lid + hinge bonded together). Most chain shops won't take Mac display work. We can sometimes do glass-only replacement on Retina models, which cuts the cost — ask during diagnostic.
Yes. We don't access your data unless the repair specifically requires it. For most repairs the SSD stays inside the Mac. If we need to remove storage temporarily, we re-install the same chip. We recommend a Time Machine backup before bringing it in — standard practice for any repair.
Yes. Apple's recall covered specific 2015–2019 models for free, but the program ended in 2022. Out-of-warranty butterfly replacements: $290–$390 (full top-case). We use the latest scissor-switch revision Apple supplies for these, not original butterflies.
Depends on age. M1/M2 MacBook Pro 14" / 16": yes, the rest of the laptop is way too valuable not to fix. 2017 or older Air: usually not worth it — cost approaches the value of a refurb replacement. We give honest advice during free diagnostic.
